Job Description

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Pharmacy Operations, the Staff Pharmacist is responsible for analyzing and evaluating medication orders to ensure safe and effective medication therapy for all patients.

Job Duties:
Ensures correct medication therapy by analyzing drug orders for proper dosage, scheduling, route, etc., then accurately prepares and dispenses the medication. Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, other support personnel and patients to ensure correct usage; participates in educational programs. Follows established regulations and legal requirements. Maintains necessary records as required. Supervises activities of technical support staff to ensure efficient and effective drug delivery. Attends continuing education programs to keep abreast of changes in profession and to fulfill requirements. Manages a group of people and/or function for a specific period of time, usually a particular shift. Provides expert technical and/or professional assistance and directs the training of personnel. Assigns, schedules, reviews and evaluates personnel. Maintains appropriate quality control and quality assurance program standards. Continually works to anticipate and exceed the needs and expectations of customers. Produces quality results which provide caring and excellent health services that are progressive, patient centered and family oriented. Demonstrates effective methods to reduce costs. Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
Age Specific Criteria:
Newborn: Is able to correctly evaluate and interpret drug dosage in newborns. Geriatric: Is able to correctly evaluate and interpret drug dosage in elderly patients. Geriatric: Understands the use of the Elderly Dosage Warning System.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy with license to practice in Ohio. Previous hospital experience preferred.
